Who Am I?

Loaded question. I’m April, the mom of a smart, beautiful, hilarious and sometimes exasperating four-year-old girl named Nora and new mom to a baby boy, Harrison, personality traits TBD (fingers crossed). I’m also the wife of a smart, hilarious and sometimes exasperating guy named Ken, who has made me an infinitely better human.

Inherently, I always knew I’d have children, but I never really thought about being a mother. I didn’t dream about motherhood the way some women do, but instead took it as fact of life. So when I had my first child I was shocked at how much I loved being a mom, how my daughter gave my life the meaning I had been seeking for the past 30 years.

While my kids attend daycare full-time in the ‘burbs, I feverishly fight off mom-guilt while working at an ad agency in downtown Milwaukee. I’ve led the agency life my entire career, primarily in public relations. I love the strategy and creativity of my job, but the highlight of my days are the few hours in the evening we enjoy as a family.

Historically, I’ve attempted to keep these two worlds of mine separate. That is, until it hit me… marketing and parenting actually have a lot of similarities. I, like most parents, use strategic communications and marketing tactics on my toddler every single day without a second thought (and vice versa) and my daughter, unbeknownst to her, demonstrates a wide range of consumer behaviors and economic theories.

This site is for moms (and dads) who work in marketing and want to see their jobs in a new light, or those who are interested in learning more about everyday marketing, while (hopefully) being entertained along the way.
